Kenyan Pastor Steps Down After Church Invites Ruto
A Kenyan pastor living in the United States has resorted to social media to announce his resignation from his leadership position at the Jesus Compassion Ministry (JCM) United States branch.
This comes after the church’s decision to invite President William Ruto to attend their event in Kenya.
On Sunday morning, February 22, Pastor Charles Wachira published a statement announcing his resignation from the church.
Wachira underlined the necessity to preserve spiritual leadership founded on truth, righteousness, and the defence of innocent life.
In his notice, Wachira expressed major concerns about leadership principles and recent public engagements that he said have deeply affected many believers, particularly the young Generation Z.

He stated that the church must not appear indifferent to the suffering of the people, and that leadership activities that cause confusion, conflict, or moral distress among Christians necessitate a principled reaction.
“Pastor Charles Wachira believes spiritual leadership must stand firmly on truth, righteousness, and the defense of innocent life,” he stated in the statement.
“When leadership actions create confusion, division, or moral discomfort among believers, it becomes necessary to take a principled stand,” he added.
The pastor expressed concern about what he described as increased requests for justice, accountability, and moral clarity, particularly among young believers in Kenya’s current sensitive political atmosphere.
He also cited biblical principles, such as warnings against making evil good and encouraging justice for the disadvantaged.
The pastor also noted that spiritual leaders have a responsibility to speak up for those who are unable to speak for themselves.
However, he stated that his decision to step down was motivated by conviction rather than rebellion, and that he will share additional information about his departure.
His resignation comes after the church invited President William Ruto to its third anniversary celebrations at the church’s headquarters, based in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
