Politicians Feared Dead After Fatal Helicopter Crash In Nandi

A helicopter crashed and caught fire at Chepkiep, Mosop Sub-county, Nandi County, on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

According to early reports, the helicopter crashed, killing six occupants. The identity of individuals on the jet are unknown.

The jet is alleged to have crashed around 4:45 p.m. in Mosop, bursting into flames minutes after impact.

Residents were seen racing to the site to help rescue any survivors, according to photos and videos published online.

According to Nandi, the helicopter’s registration number is 5Y-DSB, and it is owned by a corporation situated at Nairobi’s Wilson International Airport.

According to Flightradar24 data, the plane is an Airbus Helicopters H125 that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen flew on September 15, 2025.

It is unclear if the CS has utilized the plane since then.

A scan of the tail number reveals that the aircraft left Nairobi at 11:02 a.m. on Saturday, but it does not indicate when the plane landed at its destination.

Furthermore, the available data does not reveal when the plane was due to leave its destination.

According to recorded data, the jet made two additional voyages this month, the first on February 22, 2026, departing at 1:32pm from an unidentified location to an unrecorded destination.

At the same time, on February 21, it made a trip from Nairobi to Wilson Airport, departing at 9:32am and landing at 6:16pm.

Police say the bodies that have been recovered from the scene have yet to be identified, as reports online indicate prominent figures may be among those who were ferried by the ill-fated chopper.

Further search of the plane indicates that the plane was used by the former Prime Minister, the late Raila Odinga.

On April 1, 2022, at 5:50pm, it was vandalised by youths after chaos erupted during the burial ceremony of the late Jackson Kibor.
