Traffic was temporarily delayed along Limuru Road, near City Park Market, on Monday, May 25, when boda boda operators stopped the major road in a new wave of demonstrations.

By Monday afternoon, a part of Limuru Road had become impassable due to over 100 operators blocking it, causing significant traffic problems.

Bodaboda riders were initially seen in Westlands several hours earlier, riding into Nairobi’s Central Business District to protest alleged harassment by county government enforcement personnel.

This comes as a number of protests have been reported today in Nairobi’s environs, led by Thika Town Protests, where severe public transport paralysis and active demonstrations have been reported over recent fuel price hikes.

Protesters and striking public transport workers blocked multiple critical roads, burned tires, and brought regular business operations to a complete standstill.

Similar incidents have been reported in Embu and Nyahururu, where businesses were indefinitely closed and transport was paralysed, with residents protesting over the high fuel prices the country has been grappling with.

In Embu, for instance, motorists were forced to pull their vehicles out of the route since protesters were seen stoning any vehicle that was in sight.

As of the time of publishing this story, no security body or transport body has responded to the ongoing disruptions.
