Morara Kebaso Ditches Inject Party, Joins Matiang’i’s Jubilee Party For MP Seat
Political activist Morara Kebaso has announced that he has ditched his political party, the Independent Party of Kenya, and will now join the Jubilee Party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview on Obinna TV on Monday, June 29, Kebaso said the decision was informed by what he termed ‘political realities’ in the Gusii region, where he has political interest.
According to Kebaso, he is seeking to vie for the Borabu parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections, which is part of the reason why he abandoned his party.
βInject Party will remain in the cupboard. For now, we are working with the Jubilee Party. We have to go with the realities of the politics of the day,β Kebaso stated.
According to the activist turned politician, political success in the Gusii region requires alignment with dominant political formations, suggesting that smaller parties may struggle to gain traction among voters.
βIn the Gusii region, you cannot talk of any other party. The people wonβt listen and might not give you the opportunity to serve them even with good ideas,β he added.
Jubilee party, led by the fourth president, Uhuru Kenyatta, Kebaso says, is popular in Kisii and Nyamira counties because it is the party with which former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, a regional leader, has announced his presidential bid.
Because of this dynamic, Morara believes the party is unlikely to make any significant inroads in the region, arguing that his political ambitions could end before they even begin.
Kebaso’s MP bid comes a year after he announced his interest in the presidency and unveiled his manifesto, as well as his party, the Inject party.

While announcing his presidential bid in May 2025, the lawyer and businessman pledged reforms in the country if elected as the Head of State, with a special focus on Kenya’s agriculture sector to empower the youth.
However, a few weeks after the announcement, Kebaso said he had quit politics, citing the consistent criticism he had often faced.
“I’ve finally left politics. Now I can live my life, run my business, make my money, travel the world, see my friends, and visit a bar without worrying about being photographed. I’m free,” Morara declared in a statement on June 23, 2025.
He first gained nationwide attention during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests, when he pioneered a new form of government accountability.
The activist dedicated his time to touring the country through a show dubbed Vampire Diaries, while exposing stalled government projects dating back to the era of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
