24-Year-Old Man Imprisoned For 7 Years After Attacking A Police Officer In Kakamega
Tuesday saw the 7-year prison sentence of a 24-year-old man who had been found guilty of assaulting a police officer.
The Kakamega Court found the man guilty of committing the crime in May of this year during the course of its ruling.
In a statement, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions stated that the man, who had previously appeared in court twice, had initially declined to enter a plea but ultimately admitted guilt to all charges.
“The accused after refusing to take plea on two occasions eventually took plea today and pleaded guilty to all the four counts,” stated the ODPP.

In addition, the prosecution presented proof in court to demonstrate that the officer had been beaten while performing official duties.
The Magistrate also noted that assaulting police officers was becoming increasingly common, so a custodial sentence was imposed as a deterrent.
The judge’s decision came after the prosecution counsel asked the court to uphold the minimum sentence imposed by the law.
This ruling comes after a 19-year-old teenager was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The teenager who appeared in a viral video was arraigned in court on Tuesday morning after being seen battering a police officer on Kamiti Road on Sunday morning.
In the incident, the police officer was injured, prompting an investigation and subsequent pursuit that resulted in the suspect’s arrest.
After the situation escalated, the young man went into hiding.
According to the ODPP’s charge sheet, the 19-year-old was charged with robbery with violence after allegedly stealing a battery for a police communication device and a mobile phone worth Ksh50,000.
