Armed thugs raided a gold mining company in Rarieda Sub-county and stole equipment worth millions of shillings.

When gangsters overpowered and knocked down a section of the Amlight Resources Company’s security wall, the watchmen fled.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in the North Ramba sub-location of Central Asembo.

According to Amlight Resources’ director, Amos Barasa Mabonga, this was the fifth attack on his premises this year.

Mabonga stated that no action had been taken in all previous attacks, despite the fact that suspects had been positively identified.

He spoke with the media in the company yard, accompanied by his lawyer, Dunstan Omari.

“The first attack occurred on January 25, this year and two lives were lost. As we speak, the case has never reached the courts,” Mabonga said.

He stated that whenever they inquire, they are informed that the file is still in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

He claimed that no action was taken against the suspects in both cases, which has emboldened perpetrators of crimes against his employees and property to launch similar attacks.

Amlight Resources employee Charles Otieno Onyango accused some personnel and government officials of colluding with a rival gold mining company operating in the area to undermine Amlight.

Onyango stated that villagers are tired of the constant attacks and harassment, and warned that unless action is taken to stop the attacks, the area will become a bloodbath.

“We will no longer entertain these acts. We have endured enough and if the government cannot act, they will come to collect bodies,” he said.

Omari claimed that law enforcement agencies lacked vitality in performing their duties and were to blame for the perennial attacks on his client’s property.

Omari stated that a court order had halted mining activities in the area, but invaders had dug tunnels into his client’s land and were carrying out their activities illegally.

“This is a war where a Kenyan investor is being harassed by a foreigner,” Omari said.

He added that the law cannot be interpreted to protect foreigners at the expense of locals.

He promised to take up the matter with the appropriate offices, including the DPP, and ensure that all perpetrators face the law.
