DP Gachagua Roars Big In Nairobi While Addressing His Impeachment Plans

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua lashed out on Friday at a group of Members of Parliament over plans to file an impeachment motion to remove him from his current position.

Gachagua, who spoke with traders at Nairobi’s Marikiti Market, claimed he learned of plans to depose and replace him with a puppet.

While discussing the issue, the deputy president claimed that it was impossible to dismiss him because the Kenyan people elected him to the position.

“They’re threatening me that they will mobilize MPs to kick me out and install their puppet. They have given these MPs money to sell me fear,” Gachagua claimed.

“I was elected by Kenyans and they are the ones to remove me from my seat when the time comes,” he added.

While insisting on the issue, the DP also criticised Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for his controversial decision to forcefully relocate traders from Wakulima Market.

Gachagua accused the city governor of betraying the traders by failing to meet their demands despite receiving overwhelming support from them during the previous elections.

“When we were campaigning at Wakukima market, there were a lot of people and no one had a problem after receiving many votes, they are now claiming that there is a congestion problem in the CBD. Why didn’t they point that out during the campaign period,” the DP alleged.

At the same event, the Deputy President’s allies took turns criticizing Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah for consistently disrespecting and disparaging Gachagua in public.

“Kimani Ichung’wah insults DP Gachagua while he is standing next to the President and the President does not reprimand him,” said Embasi North MP James Gakuya.

Gachagua’s remarks come days after reports surfaced of alleged plans by a group of Kenya Kwanza legislators to impeach and replace the Deputy President.

According to sources, the Kenya Kwanza leadership in the National Assembly has already received an impeachment motion against the second-in-command.

However, the reports also suggested that over fifty lawmakers from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the Wiper Party, and Independent parties met on the night of September 16 in a bid to stop Gachagua’s impeachment.
