MORARA KEBASO: Celebrated Activist Vows To Refund Contributions, Questions Kenyans’ Mindset

Morara Kebeso, an activist and lawyer, announced an unexpected move Saturday as part of his widespread civic education campaign.

Morara hopes to educate Kenyans on the importance of staying informed at a time when the country is suffering greatly from rampant corruption.

Morara revealed in a post on Saturday that he has decided to refund the money raised for him after concluding that Kenyans have not done enough to effect meaningful change in how the country is governed.

The activist stated unequivocally that he will not allow his reputation to be dragged through the mud and labeled a conman and beggar.

Especially since he was confident that his efforts were genuine attempts to change Kenya for the good.

The lawyer went on to say that he will not continue his struggle for a better Kenya.

“But a time comes when a man must decide whether the nation is worth struggling for. My observation is that most Kenyans have already decided the country they want to live in,” continued Morara.

On September 3, Morara asked Kenyans to help him financially as he sought to expand his civic education campaign.

Morara had asked Kenyans to raise between Ksh840,000 and Ksh1.2 million to purchase and install a cutting-edge PA system.

To his utter surprise, the activist received enormous support through his mobile account, which has a limit of Ksh500,000 and accepts unlimited contributions.

Aside from the money, Kebeso was given a luxurious home and a car. The house in Kahawa Sukari, Nairobi County, would serve as his office headquarters and operational base.

Morara rose to national prominence as an auditor of stalled Kenya Kwanza government projects.

Morara’s inspections of government projects irritated senior government officials.

His decision compelled Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki’s offices to begin the verification of high-impact national government projects.
