MCSK Responds To Viral Poster Claiming Ezekiel Mutua Suspension
The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) pulled down a bogus poster on Monday claiming that Ezekiel Mutua, the Society’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), had been sacked by the board.
In a statement, MCSK described the poster, which had circulated for the better part of the weekend, as a hoax and warned its members not to believe it.
MCSK Chairman Lazarus Muli maintained that Mutua was still in charge of the agency, asking MCSK members to disregard rumors that he had been ousted from the board as false news.
“Our members and stakeholders can rest assured that Dr. Mutua is in charge and the MCSK leadership is fully behind him,” the statement read in part.

“This is, therefore, to request Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) members and stakeholders to dismiss the propaganda being peddled with the contempt it deserves,” he added.
According to Muli, the material was spread by wicked people intent on harming Mutua’s personal and MCSK’s reputation due to the work they’ve been doing.
“The material being circulated by people with ill motives is pure propaganda by cartels in the industry who are unhappy with the great work Mutua is doing for MCSK and the music industry in general,” the statement added.
The society also disclosed that he will pursue legal action to have the writers of the bogus poster caught and prosecuted.
“Appropriate action is being taken against the authors of the malicious documents to ensure that they face the law for defamation and spreading falsehood,” the statement revealed
He went on to say that Mutua’s efforts to bring about change in the creative business, which has long been held prisoner by cartels at the cost of artists, were the primary reason he was being targeted with fake news to undermine his work at MCSK.

In the statement, MCSK stated that it completely supports CEO Mutua and his staff as they transform the industry.
It comes as MCSK has been embroiled in leadership disputes in the recent past. On August 18, new board members who had stepped in to take leadership roles were prohibited from accessing the premises, resulting in drama.
The new members stated that they were elected as the new leaders at an emergency general meeting and that they had paperwork proving their positions. However, MCSK did not respond to the matter at the time.
