‘The Matter Is Closed!’ – Gachagua Finally Speaks On Uhuru-Ruto Meeting, MPs Betrayal

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fully dismissed the chance of improving relations with President William Ruto and his erstwhile political supporters.

Gachagua was in his birthplace of Nyeri for a religious service at Ishamara Baptist religious in Mukurweini Constituency.

While conceding that the recent impeachment had damaged him, Gachagua was certain that he would not forgive his political opponents who orchestrated his removal.

Amid a recent wave of handshakes in which President William Ruto improved his relationship with Raila Odinga and, more recently, Uhuru Kenyatta, Gachagua likewise dismissed expectations that he might eventually reconcile with his erstwhile political adversaries.

“Betrayal in our community is a taboo, it is an abomination and it is an act in this community that is never forgiven. Once you do it, there is no remedy. The matter is closed,” the former DP said.

“The mountain has moved on, though in humiliation and shame. But there is no remedy.”

“So those analysts who are trying to analyse what will happen, that is the answer for you, and because you are here; time will tell.”

Gachagua’s recent remarks came just a week after President Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta visited the latter’s house in Gatundu.

Political observers believe the pair’s meeting will complicate matters further for the impeached Deputy President, particularly in the Mount Kenya region.

During the Sunday service, Gachagua reiterated that his next political move would be unveiled shortly.

“We as a region have been humiliated, our pride has been deflated. But we will restrategize and within a short time, we will claim back our pride and dignity as a people.”

The former deputy president also addressed the recent attack on him in Limuru, accusing Inspector General Douglas Kanja of failing to arrest any suspects weeks after the incident.

Gachagua also alleged there was an agenda against some of his allies, including Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, who was hauled in for questioning on the subject.

At the same time, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, a well-known Gachagua supporter, echoed the former DP’s remarks on Sunday, warning against additional political betrayals.

The governor clearly implied that any Mount Kenya leader who accepted a position in President Ruto’s administration would be regarded as a traitor.

“If there is a seat that should be brought to Nyeri, it should be the presidential seat, not the cabinet. We don’t want cabinet positions,” he said.
