Band Of Bandits Raid A Baringo Village Injuring KDF Soldier And Stealing 140 Goats
A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer and one woman were seriously injured during a banditry attack on the road between Mainonin and Loruk in Baringo County.
The Saturday mid-morning incident, which occurred a few metres from the Moinonin IDP camp, saw approximately 100 armed bandits drive away over 140 goats belonging to eight families in the vicinity.Â
According to reports, some of those who had been displaced due to insecurity in the area had begun to return home when the bandits attacked.
In response to the attack, the KDF sent three helicopters into the area, two of which pursued the attackers and the other airlifted the injured officer.
The military gunship aircraft later launched missiles and bombs into the bandits’ hideouts.
Following the attack, locals claim that the bandits were seen surveying the area on Friday. They claim to have reported to the police, but no action was taken.
Ruto stated that he was committed to putting an end to the banditry threat in North Rift Kenya after sending 3,000 military personnel and 2,000 police officers to the volatile region.
“I committed to the people of Kenya to sort out insecurity in the North Rift. I have followed that with action. As we speak there are 3,000 military officers and 2,000 police officers in the North Rift. We have also renovated 15 schools and reopened 20 schools that were closed. The exercise is still ongoing,” said Ruto during his tour of the United States.
The U.S. Secretary of State emphasised the importance of securing Kenya’s borders and assisting her allies both locally and internationally.
On May 23, a group of 1,000 Kenyan police officers was scheduled to fly to gang-ridden Port-au-Prince, Haiti, but the flight was delayed.
