Medical Fraternity Join Anti-Finance Bill Protests To Provide Medical Care

KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah has stated that medics will handle any injuries or emergencies that may arise during the planned demonstrations in Kenyan towns.

The doctors plan to gather in Nairobi and other towns at noon to join other protesters.

“As @kmpdu, we stand in full support of #MedicsForKenya and join the nationwide call to #RejectFinanceBill2024. Our commitment extends to offering medical care to all peaceful demonstrators participating in this crucial movement,” Davji wrote on X.

“We will convene in Nairobi CBD and other involved towns at 12 PM to ensure that our voices are heard and that our fellow citizens receive the care they need during these demonstrations.”

While vowing to make their presence felt, Davji stated that doctors are fully supportive of the effort to bring about ‘meaningful change’ while also protecting Kenyans’ health.

“We believe in the power of peaceful protest to bring about meaningful change and are dedicated to supporting those who exercise their democratic rights. Let us stand together in solidarity, advocating for a fair and just future for our nation. VIVA!” he added.

Several other doctors on X have supported the message, with many repeatedly tweeting about the day’s activities, where the medics will be stationed, and who to call/text in the event of an emergency.

Dr. Austin Omondi wrote, “Good morning comrades, here are the WhatsApp coordination groups for Medics in the different regions…We have mobilised over 1000 medical personnel across the country to assist people today.”

According to Dr. Omondi, medical teams will visit Kenyan towns such as Nakuru, Laikipia, Nanyuki, Kilifi, Kajiado, Kisii, and Meru.

Omondi also urged the police to use restraint when dealing with medics, stating that they will be on the streets for any Kenyan in need of medical attention.

“Medics will have a central command centre at Jamia Mosque and other mobile units. You will identify us with our white lab coats and we’ll walk in groups. Kindly @NPSOfficial_KE don’t harm the medics or any protesters. We’re here for all Kenyans who’ll need medical aid,” he said.

Members of Parliament will resume debating the 2024 Finance Bill on Thursday as thousands of irate Kenyans from across the country gather in their respective towns to add pressure to the hugely popular Occupy Parliament protests.
