Ruto CS, Kimilili MP Chased By Angry Residents For Voting And Supporting The Finance Bill
Didmus Barasa, a Kimilili Member of Parliament, was forced to flee a burial in Bungoma on Saturday after angry protesters stormed the event.
The chaos ensued when Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha stood to address the congregation, which included Barasa.
However, Nakhumicha’s speech was briefly interrupted when a group of armed locals began shouting at Didmus, who was seated in the front.
The event quickly became chaotic as locals surrounded the MP, attempting to eject him from the event.
While expressing their rage, the residents accused the legislator of betrayal for voting in favor of the contentious Finance Bill 2024.
However, Barasa’s bodyguards, who were on high alert, quickly intervened and flanked the MP, shielding him from public outrage.

Upon intervention, Barasa hesitantly rushed out of the event and took cover inside his vehicle, even as residents beat him up.
Barasa was one of 204 Members of Parliament who voted ‘yes’ on the contentious bill, despite public calls for legislators to reject it.
The Bungoma incident occurred the day after residents in Bondo, Siaya County, stormed MP Gideon Ochanda’s office after he voted in favor of the bill.
Locals marched up to the lawmaker’s office, carrying a brown coffin, and demanded his resignation.
The protestors also held large placards with the legislator’s name written on them, expressing their displeasure with Ochanda’s controversial decision.
Despite police efforts to prevent them from entering the offices, the adamant protestors resorted to standing outside with the coffin raised.
