Davji Atellah Confirms Doctors’ Strike Still On, Claims KMPDU Account Hacked

Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davji Atellah has confirmed that the union’s social media page has been hacked.

This follows a post on KMPDU’s X account on Monday announcing the cancellation of plans to occupy the Ministry of Health’s premises at Afya House in Nairobi.

KMPDU announced plans to occupy the premises on Monday, July 8, to ensure that all medical interns are assigned to health facilities across the country in accordance with the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Medics had planned the protests to put pressure on the government to post and pay medical interns.

Healthcare workers were also calling for the removal or resignation of Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha, claiming she was underperforming.

KMPDU’s now-deleted post stated that the strike was being called off due to ongoing discussions and commitments to ensure that all medical interns are posted.

In a swift rebuttal, Atellah called the reports false and claimed that the account had been compromised, adding that the strike is still ongoing.

“The union handle has been compromised and we are trying our best to gain control of it and clean. We must overhaul the system including those that have hacked the union handles. We remain strong. We remain focused. Tukutane MoH,” he wrote on X.
