‘Gen Z Has Made Me Proud!’ – A Mother Mourns Slain Heroes At The Shujaaz Memorial
Emotions ran high on Sunday at Uhuru Park during the Shujaaz Memorial Concert for protest victims.
Kenyans turned out in large numbers to remember those who died during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests that lasted two weeks.
They carried and waved Kenyan flags as they were entertained by various performers.
Kenyans praised those who died during protests as heroes who fought for the country’s justice.
A woman was seen weeping and being consoled by concertgoers after she couldn’t hold back her tears.
I can’t explain the feeling!! The youths have made a decision to reclaim their country and oh my! God bless Kenya. 🇰🇪#ShujaazMemorialConcert #SabaSaba2024 pic.twitter.com/DIcPBr54UE

She stated that the demonstration of unity by Generation Z made her feel patriotic for the first time.
The woman went on to say that the younger generation has made her proud and that those who died in the protests were not in vain.
“Go well our heroes, I’m very proud of you. Gen Zs have made me proud, they have made me proud!” she said amid sobs.
“I never bought the flag of Kenya, it is the first time I bought this flag because I’m proud to be a Kenyan. For the first time, I’m proud to be a Kenyan. Ooh, my children, you did not die in vain.”
A woman stood beside her, holding her shoulders and comforting her as she spoke.
Hundreds of Generation Zs and Millenials attended the memorial concert at Uhuru Park.
The Shujaaz Memorial Concert attracted people from outside the two generations.
The event was preceded by the placement of crosses bearing the names of those who died in the protests and those who remain missing.
Several artists entertained the audience.
The concert organizers, led by activist Boniface Mwangi, were in attendance, as were other leaders.
The venue was heavily policed to ensure law and order.
Personnel were stationed at various locations, including Parliament, State House, and major roads.
Officials stated that this was simply a precaution to prevent any type of crime.
“We are there to ensure everyone’s safety,” a police officer said.
