Mudavadi Drums Up Support For Raila’s AUC Candidacy At The EAC Retreat
Musalia Mudavadi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, has urged East African Community member states to support Raila Odinga’s candidacy for African Union Chairman.
Mudavadi believes Odinga is better suited to represent the EAC region in the race, and that his credentials and experience put him in a strong position for the AUC job.
Speaking at the EAC ministerial retreat, Mudavadi urged EAC member states to carefully consider Odinga’s candidacy and make a clear decision to support him.

“We believe and are certain that this is the time for our region to produce the chairperson who will be at the helm of the continental leadership. I urge all member states to keenly scrutinize Odinga’s candidacy so that we can speak with one voice,” Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi stated that Raila’s track record speaks for itself, that he has good intentions for the continent, and that he is eager to advance Africa’s interests around the world.
“The deliberations that we have had at this ministerial meeting should guide us moving forward on what exactly is our point of focus and this will translate into the continental conversation moving into the future,” Mudavadi said.
He also took advantage of the opportunity to advance Kenya’s interests in trade, investment, and security, all of which are critical components of the region’s integration efforts.
He stated that Kenya, as a regional business hub and beacon of regional peace and democracy, is committed to ensuring that EAC member states work together for the common good of their citizens.
Raila, for his part, emphasized the importance of regional representation within the larger African Union formation, citing the East African region’s readiness to produce the next AU chairperson.
“The time is ripe for East Africa to assume the helm of the AU leadership. The AU rotational leadership policy places our region at the best position possible this time round,” said Odinga.
Odinga stated that he will rely on his visionary leadership during the continent’s multifaceted transition.
He stated that it is time to take Africa and her interests to the next level, making Africa a destination for investment and unlocking untapped economic potential.
“My tenure as AU’s Special Envoy for infrastructure equipped me with the understanding of Africa’s challenges and the options we have to advance solutions to help move our continent into the next frontier.” According to Odinga
