CJ Koome Reveals The Late Justice Majanja’s Illness, Outlines The Next Steps
The Kenyan Judiciary issued a statement on Thursday, revealing that the late Justice David Majanja died while recovering from surgery in a Nairobi hospital.
According to Chief Justice Martha Koome, the Judge reported feeling ill on Monday and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The judge’s illness was so severe that he was scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday morning.

However, after a successful surgery, Justice Majanja died while recovering in the Intensive Care Unit.
While mourning his untimely death, the judiciary confirmed that they were coordinating with his family on funeral arrangements.
The judiciary also stated that they would provide regular updates on the status of the arrangements to ensure that Kenyans could pay their respects to the late judge.
Furthermore, the judiciary announced that it would hold a Closing of the File Proceedings for the judge’s cases, as well as other memorial services in his honor.
Justice Majanja was initially appointed to the High Court in 2011.
He worked as a judge in several courthouses, including the Constitutional and Human Rights Division, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu, Kisii, and the Commercial and Tax Division.
He was working at the Milimani High Court Civil Division when he died.
In May 2019, he was elected a Commissioner of the Judicial Service Commission, representing the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association.
After serving his first five-year term, he was re-elected for a second term in May 2024.
He also chaired the JSC’s Human Resource Management Committee and served on the Audit, Governance, and Risk Management Committee, as well as the Learning and Development Committee.
