Amin Mohammed Ibrahim, the Director of Criminal Investigations, has narrowed the investigation into possible cases of cults, serial killers, or rogue medical practitioners in the Mukuru dumpsite mystery.

The preliminary investigations by homicide detectives from the criminal investigations unit revealed the possibility of serial killers, cults, or rogue medical practitioners.

While rallying the public as officers continued to investigate the incident, the DCI lamented the hostile environment and backlash meted out to his officers by Kenyans during the retrieval of bodies from the quarry-turned-dumpsite.

Speaking during a press briefing on Sunday, the DCI Boss urged the public to provide the investigations team with a good and conducive working environment to expedite investigations into the case which has attracted countrywide attention.

“It is sad to note that my investigations team faced a lot of hostility from the members of the public in terms of accessing the crime scene.”

Amin also expressed gratitude to human rights organizations such as Amnesty International, Haki Afrika, and the Kenya Red Cross for intervening to calm angry Kenyans.

On Friday and Saturday, homicide detectives from the DCI were able to gain access to the Kware Dumpsite thanks to the organizations’ critical role.

The detectives have recovered more than 14 bodies with varying degrees of decomposition.

The DCI expressed concern about how the bodies were packaged and dumped, as well as the location of disposal.

“If you look at the age, gender, and how the bodies have been disguised and packaged, all the same.”

The DCI also announced the deployment of additional homicide investigators to determine what happened.

The ongoing retrieval of bodies from the dumpsite has been a grisly scene for most Kenyans. The majority of the bodies dumped there are believed to be of only women.

The rescue comes weeks after several Kenyans were reportedly killed during anti-government protests, which also saw many Kenyans abducted.

Several abductees were discovered dead. However, as of Sunday, police and civil society organizations had not linked the retrieved bodies to recent disappearances.
