ACK’s Bishop Ole Sapit Demands Ruto To Act On Issues Raised By Anti-Gov’t Protesters
The archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), Jackson Ole Sapit, urged President William Ruto on Friday to meet all of the demands made by anti-government protesters.
Sapit, speaking to the press at Nairobi’s All Saints Cathedral, urged the President to consider reducing government spending.
The bishop also urged President Ruto to implement strict measures to combat widespread corruption at the national and county levels.
President Ruto was also urged to reduce the size of his administration and focus on providing essential services to Kenyans.
Sapit set a seven-day deadline for the government to meet the aforementioned demands, which he believed were critical in quelling the country’s unrest.

“In view of these matters, the government must in the next one week come up with an implementation matrix of these demands and make it available for public scrutiny,” Sapit stated.
The archbishop also condemned attacks on media personnel covering anti-government demonstrations.
Sapit also urged the demonstrators to end their protests and give the government enough time to implement the demands made by the protesters.
According to the bishop, the president had already met the majority of their demands, including sacking all of his cabinet secretaries.
He noted that the recent demonstrations had been infiltrated by goons who intended to cause damage and disrupt daily activities.
Police officers were also instructed to stop assaulting peaceful protesters with tear gas canisters and beating them.
Sapit’s comments come just hours after the National Integrity Alliance (NIA), a coalition of five non-governmental organizations, urged Ruto to order an investigation into the atrocities committed against peaceful protesters during the recent demonstrations.
Lobby groups led by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) also urged the president to consider appointing honest and uncorrupt leaders with no criminal record.
“There has been no political accountability for the various corruption cases such as the fake fertilizer and the mosquito net scam,” the advocacy organizations stated.
