LSK To Charge Rogue Police After Collecting Abductions and Police Brutality Data
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is looking into new ways to take legal action against police officers who commit excesses during protests, including filing a case at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Speaking on Twitter on Saturday, LSK President Faith Odhiambo stated that the Society, along with other civil societies, has been gathering information on brutality against Kenyans.
The teams will then evaluate the data to determine whether it meets the criteria for constructing a watertight case to be filed in the Hague-based court.

“We have been working with various civil society organizations, the question is the threshold and that is why we are collecting information and data as we analyze what tangible information can be presented,” Odhiambo stated.
“It is normally out of the threshold that we will establish whether the International Criminal Court of Justice can take up the matter,” she added.
The LSK leader also stated that they have asked international organizations to monitor and investigate atrocities committed against Kenyans who have been protesting.
The organization urged Kenyans to report any cases of unlawful detention or abduction during the peaceful protests to the toll-free number 0800 720 434.
When launching the appeal, LSK stated that the information could be in the form of videos or photos.
The International Criminal Court of Justice has a special rapporteur unit tasked with carrying out and investigating atrocities, as well as monitoring situations during times of political instability.
As a result, the society has called on international investigators to expedite investigations into the situation in Kenya.
This comes after the opposition coalition Azimio threatened to take perpetrators of such crimes to the International Criminal Court on Friday, June 28, 2024.
During a press briefing, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka emphasized that it was unacceptable that protestors were not being allowed to exercise their democratic right to picket.
“We are going to document every case perhaps even revisit the international criminal court and talk to them about atrocities committed against Kenyan people.”
