Gachagua Applauds Media After Previous ‘Biased Reporting’ Claims
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua praised the media as he joined a local radio station to celebrate its 21st anniversary.
Gachagua, who celebrated with Inooro FM on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Carnivore in Nairobi, stated that the media has become a critical component of good governance and socioeconomic development.
The media is founded on the cardinal functions of informing, educating and entertaining the public.

On May 20, 2023, Gachagua launched a scathing attack on the media, accusing them of misleading the country through biased reporting.
Gachagua was speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony in Nyandarua County when he claimed that the media had intentionally mud-slinged President William Ruto’s government.
In June 2023, Gachagua defended then-Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria’s remarks about a section of the media.
Kuria had accused the Nation Media Group (NMG) of being “an opposition party” in an attack.
The now-fired CS issued a roadside declaration directing government agencies to cease advertising with the media house, failing which they would be dismissed.
During the Saturday night event, the second-in-command enjoyed dancing to mugithi tunes while local artistes from the Mt. Kenya region performed.
Gachagua was accompanied by several political leaders from Nairobi and the Mount Kenya region.
They include Nairobi County woman MP Esther Passaris, Embakasi Central MP Gathiru Mejja Donk, his Embakasi North counterpart James Gakuya, and Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
Other leaders who attended the event included MPs Njeri Maina (Kirinyaga Woman Representative), Karungo wa Thang’wa (Senator, Kiambu), Peter Kihungi (Kangema MP), Samuel Gachobe (Subukia MP), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha MP), and Teresiah Wanjiru (Nominated MP).
Kimani Ngunjiri and Cate Waruguru, both former lawmakers, accompanied Gachagua.
Kevin Bahati, a Kenyan musician and content creator who has recently joined forces with DP Gachagua, was also in attendance.
