(Some people think that they will demonstrate until Kenya stops, I want to tell them, that we will not allow our country to be gambled with. We will not allow people to take the country and demonstrate by killing people, destroying properties and burning down government buildings for their selfish gains).
The President stated that he will not let a few people destroy democracy and the country. He went on to say that Kenya values peace and the rule of law.
“We will never allow a few people to cause mayhem, anarchy, destroy properties, burn down government buildings and cause problems in the country,” Ruto said.
Ruto urged Kenyans to unite and protect their country’s democracy. He stated that the country is democratic, with Kenyans choosing their leaders.
“Uongozi wa Kenya hauamuliwi kwa fujo na kwa mtandao, maandamano au kwa vita. Uongozi unaamuliwa na Wakenya kupitia demokrasia,” he said.
Kenyans across the country, led by the young people known as Generation Z, took to the streets to demand accountability and good governance from their government.
The protests put the President under pressure, resulting in the withdrawal of the Finance Bill 2024, which had sparked the street protests.
Ruto has also dissolved his previous cabinet and is in the process of forming a new one, which he claims is broad-based.
