Immediate Former Defence CS Reveals Why He Refused To Pick MPs’ Calls
Aden Duale, the nominee for Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary, revealed on Friday that he intentionally declined to pick up calls from Teso South Member of Parliament Mary Emaase while serving as Defence Minister due to concerns about corruption.
Duale explained why he refused to answer the MP’s phone call during his appearance before the National Assembly’s Appointments Committee.
The former Defence Secretary stated that it had become common practice for politicians to canvass on behalf of their constituents and friends to secure military slots.
“I am very sorry Honourable Emaase if I did not pick up your call because I was scared you would ask me to recruit somebody for you. It is the only recruitment I did under my leadership,” Duale clarified.
Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary nominee Aden Duale has said one of the ways in which he avoids being roped into corruption is by ignoring calls made by MPs.

In her defence, Emaase stated that she called Duale to inquire about why some of her constituents were being sent away from recruitment centers for flimsy reasons.
“I wanted to seek clarification from the CS to tell me the guidelines for one to be recruited. Somebody who is resourceful was being chased away,” alleged the MP.
“I wanted to secure the slots so that my constituents do not lose them and sadly my constituents lost the slots,” she added.
