
Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Has RESIGNED And Fled The Country
Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country on Monday, according to media reports.
An aide told Al Jazeera that the country’s longtime leader has boarded a military helicopter after crowds defied a national curfew to storm the prime minister’s palace in Dhaka.

This comes after more people were killed in some of the worst violence seen in the South Asian nation’s history, which dates back over five decades.
Tension remained high as protesters planned a march on Dhaka and the army prepared to address the nation.
By early afternoon, however, media reported that the mood on the streets had changed to one of celebration after the news of Hasina’s departure spread.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff, has canceled his planned speech and is now meeting with major political parties, including the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Protesters have stormed the Bangladesh prime minister’s palace in Dhaka, according to AFP, citing television footage.

Bangladesh’s Channel 24 showed footage of crowds running into the premier’s official residence in the capital, waving to the camera as they celebrated.
According to a source close to Sheikh Hasina, she has already fled the capital city in response to mass protests calling for her resignation.
