A fire destroyed a dormitory at Njia Boys Secondary School in Igembe, Meru County, destroying property worth millions.

A video circulating on social media showed a fierce inferno destroying the Jamhuri Dormitory as firefighters attempted to extinguish it.

Police officers were seen at the scene directing firefighters, the majority of whom were well-wishers fetching water in buckets.

Sources on the scene confirmed that emergency services responded quickly and were working to extinguish the fire.

Njia Boys Boarding Secondary School is a public extra-county boys’ institution in Maua, Meru County.

There were no fatalities or injuries reported at the time this story was published. The cause of that fire had yet to be determined.

This was not the first time a fire had been reported at the school. In 2019, an inferno broke out, leaving one student burned beyond recognition.

Diani Hotel Fire

The owners of the Diani Rift Hotel in Kwale County are counting their losses following a fire that broke out on Sunday, September 8.

Red Cross posted photos of the incident, which revealed that a section of the hotel was extensively damaged as a result of the fire outbreak.

The Kwale County Fire Department responded quickly to try to contain the fire, whose cause has yet to be determined.

The Kenya Red Cross, which dispatched firefighters to the hotel, confirmed the incident and stated that staff members were deployed to the location.

“Kwale County Fire Department and the Kenya Red Cross are currently responding to a fire incident at Diani Reef Hotel in Kwale County,” read a statement from Kenya Red Cross.

The Diani Reef Hotel is one of the most popular establishments on Kenya’s coastline, attracting high-end tourists.

This comes hardly a day after a fire broke out at Isiolo Girls High School and Hillside Endarasha Academy, killing 21 students.

The string of fires during the third term of the school year causes alarm and concern.

It’s unclear whether the ban is related to the recent school fires.
