‘No Gachagua, No Government’ – Nyeri Residents Declare As They March In Protest Over Impeachment Motion
The public participation process, which allows Kenyans to express their opinions on the special motion to remove Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from office, began nationwide on Friday.
While the process went as planned in most counties, Nyeri County was a notable exception.
Nyeri residents took to the streets in large numbers to protest Gachagua’s impeachment.
Demonstrators blocked major roads and lit bonfires, effectively halting daily activities.

Residents also claimed that some government officials offered them Ksh.500 bribes to support the impeachment motion against Deputy President Gachagua.
“Unapea watu form wasign ati upatie watu mia tano. Hatutaki hiyo mia tano…tunajua kujitaftia…No Rigathi…no government,” one resident said, reflecting the sentiment of those opposing the motion.
“Msiguze mlima; tuko na Rigathi!” another added.

Gachagua’s attempt to halt public participation forums was unsuccessful on Thursday.
He argued that these forums should be held in all 290 constituencies, the diaspora, and the 1,450 electoral wards where presidential elections take place.
In the documents submitted to the court, Gachagua claimed that the impeachment motion was false.
“This is a choreographed political lynching designed to defeat the sovereign will of the Kenyan people expressed at the presidential election held in August 2022,” read the statement in part.
