Atwoli Finally Breaks Silence On Gachagua’s Impeachment
As Gachagua’s impeachment motion gains momentum, Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli denied on Wednesday that he is vying for the position of deputy president.
While clarifying the situation, Atwoli insisted that he was a trade unionist and had no desire to enter politics and run for deputy president or any other elective seat.
According to the veteran trade unionist, the Luhya community, the country’s second-largest ethnic group, has well-known leaders within President William Ruto’s administration who are better suited to serve as the country’s second in command.
“If anything is coming for the Luhya community we have known political leaders who speak for the community politically and represent us in government,” Atwoli commented.
Those people who are busy peddling rumors under some unknown research document, on who should be considered for DP from Western Kenya, should stop and forget such unprocessed thoughts.

The luhyas have known leaders, in government, who represent the community ably. I am a trade…

Atwoli was forced to clarify the situation after a group of Kenyans put his name forward for the position, while Kenyans speculated on who would be chosen to replace Gachagua if he was impeached.
Gachagua, whose fate is currently being decided by Senators, was impeached by Members of Parliament on Tuesday evening after 281 legislators voted in favor of the special motion.
The Senate is scheduled to discuss and interrogate all eleven charges leveled against the deputy president within ten days, after which the matter will be put to a vote to decide Gachagua’s fate.
Gachagua has pledged to fight the impeachment in both the Senate and the courts, with the deputy president assembling a team of 20 lawyers.
