Gachagua Ally Says They Have No Problem With Kindiki

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has softened his position and accepted Kithure Kindiki’s appointment to the position.

Kahiga, who previously warned of unspecified consequences if Gachagua was impeached, stated that the country is “bigger than all of us,” emphasizing the importance of supporting him.

“We have no problem with Kindiki and we are okay with his appointment,” he said.

Speaking in Nyeri, Mutahi also wished President William Ruto well as he led the country, promising to continue to support him in carrying out his mandate to the people.

He urged him (Ruto) not to abandon the county following Gachagua’s removal.

“Nyeri should not be out of the map of the government of Kenya, because that was our seat and we still have three years to go and so we should not be forgotten,” he said.

“We do not want to see others eat as we salivate. We want to plead with him to think about the people of Nyeri as move forward.”

In a previous event, Kahiga described the plans to impeach Gachagua as an insult to the people of Mt Kenya as he stated Ruto was no longer popular in the region.

Kindiki was sworn in as the third deputy president on Friday after the Senate upheld Gachagua’s impeachment.

Gachagua assured his supporters in his first address on Saturday that he would not be leaving politics just yet.

He stated that he would meet with opinion leaders before providing direction.

“I am not quitting politics, my political ambition is unstoppable and I ask my people who feel as if they have been left without a leader to be patient. I will soon show them the political route to follow,” he said.

“Religious leaders, residents and professionals have been calling on me saying the region has been left without a spokesperson,” he added.

“They want me to declare my political stand. I want to tell them I’m holding discussions with opinion leaders and I will give them a clear direction at the right time.”

On November 7, a three-judge bench will hear the impeachment case, which sought to prevent Kindiki from being sworn in.
