DCI Breaks Silence On Reports Of Blocking Gachagua From Attending Church Service

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have denied accusations in a local newspaper that they tried to prevent former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from attending a church service in Nairobi.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 12, the DCI officers described the charges as false and misleading, and stated that the claims were intended to misrepresent their actions and intentions.

According to the detectives, the DCI operates within the confines imposed by the rule of law and has repeatedly stated its commitment to not interfering with the liberties of individuals and institutions.

While distancing itself from the charges, the DCI stated that the writer’s claims that they were unable to elicit a response from the officers were false.

In their statement, the DCI officials asked the local magazine to adequately verify information, reflect balanced perspectives, and approach sensitive themes with caution while maintaining journalistic integrity.

“We want to clarify that these allegations are entirely false and seem to be aimed at misrepresenting the actions and intentions of the DCI,” read part of the statement by the DCI.

“The publication must thoroughly verify facts, present balanced perspectives, and handle sensitive topics carefully.”

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations provided a prompt response, reaffirming the DCI’s commitment to respecting the autonomy of religious institutions and the writer acknowledged receipt of this response,” the statement added.

According to the local newspaper, the founder of the church where Gachagua was invited informed the audience that the government had attempted to cancel his appearance.

He further alleged that the police told him that hosting him would be inciting violence and disrupting local peace.

According to the story, the preacher alerted the publication, via a secretary-general to the board, that cops stormed his home in Ruiru, Kiambu County, following the service.

He claimed that they (the DCI) wanted to know why he was hosting the former deputy president.

However, he stayed firm, saying that Gachagua’s visit to his church had no ulterior motive.

The church board’s secretary-general stated that the preacher had to change automobiles after being told that detectives were following him.

According to the published account, the investigators, who drove unmarked Subarus, considered Gachagua’s presence as a national security concern that may incite the local people to oppose the government.
