UDA MP Reveals Ruto Wants Either CS Murkomen Or Chirchir As Interior Minister

Embakasi Central Member of Parliament Benjamin Gathiru, alias Mejja Donk, said on Sunday that he received good information that cabinet secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen and Davis Chirchir were under consideration for the Ministry of Interior docket.

Gathiru announced on Sunday, November 24, during a church service at AIPCA Kangari in Murang’a County, that one of the two was being considered for the post as a thank-you present for bringing the controversial Indian corporation, Adani Holdings, to Kenya.

Gathiru further said that Murkomen and Chirchir played a key role in bringing in the Adani Group to reach an agreement with the government.

“Those two ministers who were in the Energy and Transport dockets, they are the ones who signed with Adani saying that the company was good and therefore could be sold for the airport. Today, I have information that one of them is lined up for the Ministry of Interior job,” Gathiru revealed.

The legislator said that moving one of the two to the powerful Interior docket was a ploy to allow the government to reintroduce Adani through the back door.

“They want to get one of those ministers who brought Adani to the Ministry of Interior so that when Adani makes a comeback, he can be well hidden,” he added.

Gathiru instead urged President William Ruto to guarantee that the Interior CS position is only handed to someone with a clean background.

“Please, if we are being given a new Interior CS, we demand that we be given an individual with a past clean record. Those with questionable pasts should stay aside,” Gathiru stated.

The MP’s comments came at a time when social media and political corridors were abuzz with speculation about who President William Ruto may pick for the Interior CS position.

The Kikuyu Council of Elders gave former Health CS Mutahi Kagwe community blessings on Friday so that he may be considered for the Interior job.

At a session in Nyeri, Kikuyu elders overwhelmingly supported Kagwe’s participation in President William Ruto’s government.

“We have confidence in Mutahi Kagwe’s ability to lead and serve our people effectively,” stated one elder.

“His appointment would not only rectify the current lack of representation from Nyeri but also ensure that our interests are adequately addressed at the national level.”

Cabinet reorganization appears to be in the works, with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi currently holding more than two dockets in the ministries of Interior, Gender, and Foreign Affairs.
