[VIDEO] Governor Barchok Publicly Mocked, Heckled In Front Of Ruto

President William Ruto found himself in an unpleasant situation on Sunday, December 29, when Bomet locals publicly heckled their governor in his presence.

Ruto attended a church service at AIC Konoin before officially addressing Bomet people in front of various dignitaries, including Governor Hillary Barchok.

Footage released online highlighted the magnitude of Bomet locals’ animosity toward the governor, as they appeared upbeat for much of Ruto’s speech.

However, when the President granted Barchok the opportunity to address his constituents, their tone immediately altered.

In the video, hundreds of Bomet people gathered in Koiwa raised their hands to disapprove of Barchok in front of the President, who was lost for words to the irate crowd.

Barchok attempted to calm the gathering, but his efforts were received with even louder jeers.

Despite the crowd’s anger, Barchok sought to brush off the incident, informing the president that the county had ‘internal wrangles’.

“Your Excellency the President, you are welcome in Bomet. This is your home. We have our internal wrangles and we will deal with them. We don’t want interference. Once again, I say welcome to We are happy,” the governor could be heard saying.

This recent event was a perfect copy of one that occurred in March 2024, when the Bomet governor was treated to hostility in the presence of Ruto.

At the time, however, Ruto was quick to interfere, pleading with the audience to give the governor another chance.

“Please, I want to tell you that I do not want such behaviour in my gathering. You are the ones who elect MCAs, MPs Senators and even this governor, so please come down,” Ruto said in March.

The exact reason for locals’ opposition to the governor has yet to be determined, albeit his tenure over the last two years has been fraught with scandal.

In August, Bomet MCAs resolved to impeach the governor’s whole cabinet.

However, Barchok attempted to quell the attack on his cabinet by suspending three County Executive Committee (CEC) members in an effort to calm political tensions in the county.

The conflict between the MCAs and the CECs arose from KSh 96 million, which was supposedly provided to 25 wards via 10 departments.

However, MCAs accused the governor of misleading the public about the funding, prompting criticism of the legislators.
