‘Over 300 Companies Including Gucci To Set Up Factory In Kenya!’ – Kithure Kindiki

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has declared that over 300 enterprises, including well-known worldwide luxury brands like Gucci, have expressed considerable interest in establishing operations at the Kenanie Leather Industrial Park in Mavoko, Machakos County.

According to Kindiki, the park would specialize in turning hides and skins into quality leather goods like shoes, purses, and accessories, thereby contributing significantly to Kenya’s economy.

Kindiki noted that the park’s completion may boost the leather sector’s contribution to the national economy from Ksh. 10 billion to Ksh. 150 billion per year.

“Industries that use leather to make leather products are now angling to set up shop in Kenanie,” Kindiki said.

“We have over 300 applicants in the expression of interest including top-notch global leather product companies like Gucci which make designer bags… they want to come and set up there. That is how you transform a country.”

He went on, “You don’t transform a country by throwing hate, division and tribalism. You develop a country by saying ‘how do you transform the resources that God has given us into the wealth and distribute it to many people, especially those at the bottom of the pyramid.’”

The Deputy President was addressing at his official Karen residence at a consultative forum with Isiolo County authorities.

Gucci manufactures its products in numerous countries, particularly in Europe, including important factories in Italy, France, and Spain.

Once operational, the Kenanie industrial park is anticipated to function as a comprehensive value-added hub, converting raw hides into leather and producing finished goods.

According to the government, this program will increase local manufacturing, create jobs, attract foreign investment, and raise Kenya’s profile in global trade.

Kindiki further stated that the park’s completion would result in such a strong demand for hides and skins that it would outstrip the local supply.

He stated that this will provide huge opportunities for both local industries and international investors.

“It is going to offtake all the hides and skins from Kenya. Demand will not be enough. Price of hides and skins will go up,” he said.

The Deputy President also said that final preparations for the industrial park, such as road tarmacking, power upgrades, and the installation of a water treatment facility, are underway.

The Kenanie Leather Industrial Park is expected to launch at the end of the year.

The Kenanie Leather Park, located on more than 500 acres of land, aims to provide a one-stop shop for leather, footwear, leather goods, and allied businesses.

Potential investors are allegedly still submitting applications for park space.
