Jubilee’s Kioni Claims Ruto Will Win Second Term If Opposition Does Not Unite

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni feels that the opposition’s disarray will ensure President William Ruto’s second-term victory.

Kioni claims that the Kenyan opposition lacks discipline and even a distinct character because political factions have shifted camps since Ruto’s administration took office.

The official opposition party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), split when its leader, Raila Odinga, began working closely with the president.

Meanwhile, the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has seen similar problems since Rigathi Gachagua was removed from his position as Deputy President.

“You can clearly see some two vicious groups in ODM. There is ODM A and B. B has decided that we are supporting the current regime even come 2027 and A is completely at variance with that,” he told NTV on Monday.

“Again in UDA you have A which is stuck with government and B which is stuck with Gachagua. Now UDA B is trying to play opposition politics and they are in government.”

Kioni contends that if the issue is not resolved, President Ruto would not confront a strong opposition and will thus have an easier path to power.

“If this confusion they have brought into the opposition continues, that is a way of giving another 5-year term to the sitting president,” he added.

His remarks come against the backdrop of assertions that the ODM has joined forces with the State following the creation of the broad-based government.

Simba Arati, ODM Deputy Party Leader and Kisii Governor denied the claims, saying that the political body is not part of the Kenya Kwanza administration and urging its members to follow its laws and regulations.

The party is navigating a volatile political storm, with internal tensions deepening over whether to back President Ruto’s government.

A faction within ODM has strongly challenged President Ruto’s leadership, arguing that the party should focus on capturing the president in 2027.

This faction has rejected presidential selections, accusing government colleagues of sycophancy and lavishing excessive flattery on the president.

In contrast, ODM Cabinet Secretaries and certain Members of Parliament have openly expressed their support for Ruto’s administration, raising concerns about the party’s unity.

Similarly, several Ruto-led UDA party leaders have joined forces with Rigathi Gachagua, vowing to help the deposed DP in its attempt to depose Ruto in 2027.
