Banditry Leaves 3 Dead Including Two Toddlers In Elgeyo Marakwet
Three persons were killed in a banditry incident in Koitumo village, Elgeyo Marakwet county.
According to police spokesman Michael Muchiri, the attackers left shortly after the incident occurred on Monday afternoon.
He stated that they believed the incident was a retaliation strike, and the bandits fled with an unknown quantity of sheep during the raid.
Muchiri stated that they had sent extra soldiers to the ground to prevent any planned reprisal and track down the perpetrators.
“Investigations into the attack are ongoing and we hope to get to the bottom soon,” he said.

According to local officials, the reprisal follows the death of a 17-year-old kid who was shot on Monday afternoon when armed robbers assaulted herders along the Kerio River.
Later that evening, a second incident happened, which investigators believe was retribution. Two individuals were killed.
The bodies were eventually taken to the mortuary for an autopsy and further examinations.
This is the latest similar incident in the neighborhood, despite efforts to address the problem.
Last month, three individuals were killed by suspected bandits on the Tot-Kalowa road, despite measures to control the threat.
To combat banditry in the North Rift region, the government has previously sent specialist groups such as the military, Special Operations Group, and General Service Unit.
In Marsabit, a group attacked a watering hole and attempted to steal 80 goats.
This sparked a shootout with the National Police Reserve members who were present.
Police stated the NPR crew was able to resist the gang and recover all of the goats stolen in the Sunday evening incident.

As part of its attempts to combat cattle rustling, the government conducted an operation spanning at least seven counties, including Turkana.
Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift, launched in February 2023, is a government security initiative aimed at reducing growing banditry, livestock rustling, and bloodshed throughout nine counties.
This includes Baringo, Turkana, Samburu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Marsabit, Laikipia, Isiolo, and Meru.
Hot spots in these counties were labeled as “Disturbed” and “Dangerous” during the operation, which brought together the National Police Service and the Kenya Defence Forces in a coordinated attempt to restore peace and stability in the region.
