CHEBUKATI BURIAL: Rules Kenyans Told To Follow For Funeral Attendance
Wafula Chebukati, the former chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), will be buried this Saturday.
The government has given tight instructions to guarantee that the deceased receives a calm and dignified send-off.
Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi, speaking to the press on Thursday, March 6, cautioned that security officers would be on high alert to prevent any potential disruptions.
Oyagi warned that security officials will not let the gathering of groups of people in a manner that suggests political purposes and that no sort of mischief will be tolerated.
“We are not going to condone any form of hooliganism, which is becoming a norm in this region where politicians are taking advantage of funerals to flex their political muscles,” the County Commissioner stated.
The government has outlined security measures for the burial of former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, scheduled for Saturday, March 8, at his home in Sabata, Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County.

“We will not allow goons to take control of funerals, where people are mourning their departed loved ones, to cause mayhem. This has to stop,” he added.
According to him, persons attending the burial should not wear political party paraphernalia because the ceremony is a burial, not a political rally.
“We will not allow people dressed in political party regalia to attend the event on that day. Whether it is a shirt or a cap, it will not be permitted. I say this because the event is not a political gathering,” Oyagi declared.
The warning came amid rumors on social media of potential chaos, with claims that hired goons, purportedly dispatched by unnamed politicians, were intending to boo their opponents.
The recent edict reflects Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s previous remarks, in which he urged unity and respect as the county prepares to lay to rest one of its renowned sons.

Speaking to Trans Nzoia locals on Wednesday, March 5, Natembeya emphasized that Chebukati’s funeral will not be a struggle for political dominance.
The former police chief reportedly accused National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula of plotting to incite political conflict in Western Kenya during the burial.
“In events that involve Trans Nzoia, please allow us to handle such, now reports are going viral that there will be chaos when Chebukati is buried, we will not fight but we will not relent,” Natembeya said.
“We cannot fail to plan Chebukati’s burial, if Wetangula will come as a Ford Kenya party leader, we will deal with that, but if he comes as a Speaker of the National Assembly we will respect him,” he added,
