DRAMA: MP Salasya, Echesa Clash at Mumias rally [VIDEO]
On Sunday, Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya clashed with former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa in Shianda market in Kakamega County.
According to a video of the incident, the former Sports CS was addressing residents on several national issues when a vehicle carrying the first-term MP came to a stop near where Echesa was speaking.
Echesa was speaking to residents about recent development initiatives launched by President William Ruto during his latest Western tour.
The former Sports CS confirmed that the President’s commissioned development initiatives will be fulfilled.
Salasya exited the truck carrying Mumias East and moved towards Echesa while pointing fingers at him.
Salasya would later be spotted heckling the former CS and pointing fingers at him.
Echesa was then overheard telling the MP that he would not be afraid of him, even as he pointed fingers at him.
“I serve in the government of Kenya, my friend; respect me,” Echesa was heard telling him.
As the exchange of words proceeded, the audience murmured, with one side pressing Echesa to continue with his speech.

In response to the incident, Echesa and Salasya took to their individual social media accounts to condemn each other.
The lawmaker, in his statement, downplayed Echesa’s political supremacy in the region, saying he was no longer afraid of him.
“I used to grow up fearing Echesa. The fear has gone. Next, he won’t believe it,” Echesa wrote on his Facebook page.

The former CS, on the other hand, pushed the MP to listen to the public, claiming that residents had demanded that he address them.
“The people of Shianda Market demanded to hear from me, but instead of respecting their voices, their own MP, Hon. Salasya, chose to interrupt and cause chaos,” Echesa stated on his Facebook page.
“Leadership is about listening and serving the people—not silencing them. It’s time to style up and put the people first!”
The altercation occurred amid pleas for political tolerance from political leaders and supporters around the country ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
