Gov’t Breaks Silence On Bomas Of Kenya Sale Allegations
The government has responded to a surge of uproar over accusations that Kenya’s Bomas were auctioned off to a foreign investor.
On Sunday, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sensationally announced that Kenya’s famous Bomas had been sold to a Turkish individual, adding that the Cabinet had approved the deal.
However, in a response statement issued on Monday, March 10, Ummi Bashir, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Culture and Arts, denied the allegations.
PS Bashir maintained that the renowned national historic site had not been sold to anyone.
“By dint of Executive Order of Government No 2 of 2023, Bomas of Kenya was placed under the State Department for Culture, the Arts and Heritage,” Bashir said in his statement.
“I am therefore shocked by the allegations made by the former Deputy President regarding the sale of Bomas of Kenya to a Turkish national.”
The statement continued: “The State Department for Culture, the Arts and Heritage categorically refutes this allegation. Bomas of Kenya has not been sold to anyone.”
Bashir also refuted assertions that the progressive transformation of Kenya’s Bomas was the result of foreign investment.
She noted that renovations to improve the facility began in 2023, following Cabinet clearance.
“The idea of refurbishing and upgrading Bomas of Kenya is not new and has been under consideration for the past 10 years,” Bashir added in his statement.
“Nevertheless, it is the current administration that has given impetus to its actualisation. The Bomas of Kenya has a valid title in its name, issued in 1971.”
The PS also stated that the government intends to rebuild Bomas to make it a premier conferencing facility as part of a bold strategy to develop it into an international-standard complex.
Finally, Bashir maintained that Bomas of Kenya would remain a government facility, with no plans to sell it to anyone.

Bashir’s statement was met with criticism from former Deputy President Gachagua, who made bombshell claims against the government at the ACK Holy Trinity Church in Kitengela, Kajiado County on Sunday.
The former Deputy President also stated that President William Ruto and his Cabinet had ignored concerns voiced by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
The parastatal apparently warned that renovating Kenya’s Bomas would be risky because it was positioned on a key flight path.
According to Gachagua, the claimed Turkish businessman was a close associate of a high government figure.
