UDA MP Attacked By Crowd In Embu For Plotting CS Impeachment
Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was nearly beaten by Embu County citizens on Sunday after stating that he planned to file a motion to dismiss Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
Speaking at a bishop’s retirement ceremony, the MP stated that he will be sponsoring the impeachment resolution due to the CS’s directives to police personnel to shoot unarmed young Kenyans.
“You heard the government say that if the youth show up, they will be killed, and 17 were killed,” he stated.
“Murkomen, our CS, then said any man or woman who comes close to a police station will be shot, saying that that is instructions from above. We want to condemn those remarks completely.”
At this moment, the audience began booing him and yelling “hapana,” attempting to interrupt his speech as others stood to approach the MP.
Undeterred, the MP continued, “As the MP for Mukurweini alongside your MPs Mukunji and Karemba, we are going to file a motion to remove Murkomen from his seat.”

Some people had already arrived at the dais from which he was addressing the crowd.
The microphone was knocked out of his hands, thereby halting his address.
As more people gathered to attack him, the host bishop attempted to diffuse the situation.
He took the microphone and warned against making any further political remarks during the occasion, instead focusing on the issue at hand.

Murkomen has faced a lot of criticism over the last week for remarks he made encouraging police officers not to be discouraged from shooting Kenyans they viewed as threats.
Following the June 25 remarks, Murkomen declared that his ministry would safeguard officers in similar instances.
“Tumeambia polisi, mtu yeyote ambaye atakaribia police station, piga yeye risasi (We have directed the police that anyone who dares approach a police station with criminal intent, shoot them),” Murkomen directed.
Lawmakers, particularly those opposed to the government, activists, and even his law professor, Kivutha Kibwana, have all condemned Murkomen’s views.
This is despite his repeated assurances that his statements were taken out of context and that he only intended for police personnel to protect themselves from imminent threats of serious damage or death.

On Sunday, June 30, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga slammed the remarks.
“Anybody giving instructions to a police officer to shoot anyone who gets near a police station, it’s a big shame. Shame on you,” Odinga stated.
“We should not encourage taking away life in a way that is not constitutional,” he added.
“If someone has committed a crime, that person should be subjected to the law and taken to court. If the court finds him guilty, sentence him.”
