Mwabili Mwagodi’s Family Issues Fresh Demands After Kin’s Abduction

The family of missing human rights campaigner Mwabili Mwagodi has renewed their demands to the Kenyan and Tanzanian governments for information concerning his disappearance.

Mwabili’s sister, Isabella Kituri, has encouraged the two countries to find Mwabili, who was allegedly kidnapped while working in Tanzania.

While explaining how she learned of her brother’s absence, Kituri claimed that they had been informed that Mwabili had vanished without a trace and that efforts to locate him had failed.

She went on to say that her concerns had grown as a result of her brother’s vocal opposition to President William Ruto’s church fundraising efforts.

Mwabili had also mobilised Gen Z movements via his social media platforms.

“Mwabili served a just cause to defend the integrity of the church. He was just doing his civic duty as a normal Kenyan,” a visibly emotional Kituri stated.

“If there is anything else that he did, he should just be produced through the legal justice system,” she added.

Hussein Khalid, Chief Executive Officer of Vocal Africa, confirmed Mwabili’s reported abduction, adding that the activist was taken by unknown men on Wednesday, July 23.

Khalid stated that he learned about Mwabili’s abduction from a family member who informed him personally regarding the activist’s whereabouts.

The Vocal Africa CEO chastised President Samia Suluhu’s administration for allegedly targeting Kenyan activists without merit.

“A Kenyan has been abducted in Tanzania. Again. Family has confirmed that Mwabili Mwagodi, who is a Kenyan activist and was vocal against church donations, was abducted in Tanzania on Wednesday,” said Khalid.

Mwabili’s wife commented on the situation, revealing that her husband went missing on Wednesday about 10 p.m. while on his way to Dar es Salaam.

According to her, Mwabili left his car behind and chose to take public transportation to Dar es Salaam, where he works for a hospitality company.

His phone went off on the way to the city. His wife’s attempts to reach him via phone were fruitless, increasing suspicions about an abduction.

Mwabili’s alleged abduction comes just weeks after other Kenyan activists, including Boniface Mwangi, were detained in Tanzania for several days.
