Chaos Erupts, Vehicles Burnt During Governor Kihika’s Visit In Naivasha
Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika was forced to flee to safety Thursday evening after her event in Kihoto, Naivasha, was allegedly invaded and interrupted by suspected thugs.
Kihika was touring Kihoto Estate in Naivasha Town, which had recently been severely flooded due to rising Lake Naivasha levels, when chaos broke out.
During her visit, she examined the region with other senior county officials before speaking to people. Residents from other wards also came to the celebration.
During her speech, the governor vowed to aid people’s transportation back to their homes and to provide each citizen with a set amount toward the fare.
However, as soon as she ended her address, commotion broke out as a gang of adolescents attacked people in an attempt to approach the Governor, who was promptly protected by her bodyguards.
During the incident, two vehicles on the Nairobi-Nakuru route, a personal car and a trailer, were set on fire, as the Governor fled to safety.
Police officers’ attempts to intercede proved ineffective, with rounds fired to disperse the enraged gathering. The accused goons also stoned the governor’s vehicles.
Meanwhile, in her statement just moments before the chaos, Kihika vowed to bring in more tippers to help with evacuating and transporting impacted families to safer shelters.
She also announced the deployment of extra lorries and boats to rescue residents whose homes had been submerged. So far, 2000 individuals have been safely evacuated.
To improve cooperation, Governor Kihika announced the formation of a committee comprised of County Government officials, NGAO officers, and clerics.

“This committee will oversee evacuation, transportation, shelter provision, and food distribution to the affected families,” she said.
“I have appealed to churches and schools to open their doors to displaced residents.”
“I also urged local firms operating in the area to offer assistance, and we welcome support from other companies and corporate partners,” she added.
“Furthermore, I appealed to landlords in nearby estates not to increase rent for affected families.”
