Gachagua Hits Back At IG Kanja Over Alleged ‘Police-Backed Chaos’
Rigathi Gachagua, the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), has reignited his feud with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, accusing him of bias in the treatment of gang-related cases.
Gachagua appeared to retaliate against the mayhem that occurred during the Thanksgiving ceremony for the newly elected Kariobangi North Member of County Assembly, David Warui, the day before.
It was claimed that a tear gas canister was thrown into the premises where the former Deputy President was.
“Mr Kanja, the matter in your hands is not much about the goons but your police command; you have surrendered this to politicians close to the President,” Gachagua alleged.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, President William Ruto addressed in Embakasi on Monday, December 1, revealing that he had given IG Kanja strict instructions to bring all culprits to justice.
“Those who are being used to cause chaos, we cannot allow this to happen, and I have already directed the Inspector General of Police to take action against them.”
The NPS also stated that it had initiated a full-fledged investigation into the violent incident, which halted the church service and left several individuals with injuries.
Police Spokesperson Michael Muchiri alleged that they were forced to respond to two clashing parties in order to prevent further escalation.
However, in a subsequent statement, Gachagua disregarded the government’s attempts, accusing the state of being behind some of the goons.
He went on, “If police under your command disengage from the state-sponsored militia, within no time, you know Kenyans are peace-loving; they will arrest those goons and bring them back to your stations.”
According to videos circulating online, police appeared to disperse a group of thugs on Sunday, while another part appeared to move freely down a popular street.

It’s unknown who the goons in question were linked with.
In his statement, Gachagua accused police of being dishonest in their duty, detailing multiple incidents of pandemonium that specifically targeted opposition leaders.
Among the events reported by Gachagua was one in April, when the former DP’s bodyguards fired into the air to disperse hundreds of teenagers who attacked the PCEA Kasarani East Church.
On Monday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced a statewide crackdown on political goons, calling the trend “unacceptable”.
