Kenya Hosts U.S Elite Special Forces, Becomes Second In Africa
Kenya became the second African country to host Silent Warrior, a high-level security meeting organized by the United States and attended by top military commanders from 40 countries.
The development occurred mere days after President William Ruto visited Washington.
Ruto and US President Donald Trump attempted to allay concerns that the US was planning to reduce support for regional security operations, particularly the campaign against Al Shabaab insurgents in neighboring Somalia.
The Silent Warrior event, attended by African Special Operations Forces (SOF), brought together senior special operations leaders from Africa and other countries to address counterterrorism, establish relationships, and improve cross-border cooperation.

Silent Warrior 2025 is only the second time the conference has been held on the continent, following the 2024 edition in Tunis.
Lieutenant General John Omenda, the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF), represented the Chief of the Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, at the forum’s opening session in Nairobi on December 8, 2025.
The yearly conference allows African, US, and worldwide military leaders to discuss common security threats and demonstrate breakthrough defense technologies.
They also develop collaborative solutions to terrorism, transnational crime, and other complex security concerns in Africa.
It also functions as a strategic hub for innovation, idea exchange, and SOF capability augmentation, with a particular emphasis on new threats and regional stability.

In his address, Lt Gen Omenda stressed the importance of unity, collaboration, and improved coordination among partner nations.
He noted that the changing security environment requires agile command structures, responsive logistics, and continuous professional development to maintain operational superiority.
“Let us remember that our adversaries are constantly evolving, and so must we. Our unity and collaboration remain the most effective counterbalance,” said Lt Gen Omenda.
“When Special Operations Forces across the world collaborate, it becomes a force multiplier, sending a clear message to any adversary anywhere that there is no vacuum across borders.”
Honored to join African Special Operations Force leaders at #SilentWarrior2025. As threats evolve, the U.S. remains committed to partnerships that advance innovation, reinforce the defense industrial base, and support the men and women on the front lines. https://t.co/4tU5Oog3w2
