REVEALED: How Much It Will Cost To Use Rironi-Mau Summit Highway
Motorists utilizing the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway will pay Ksh1,400 for the whole 175-kilometer toll route.
According to Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary of Interior and National Administration, the route will be tolled at Ksh8 per kilometer for small cars, with trucks and buses treated differently.
“By the end of 2027, the Nairobi–Nakuru journey will no longer feel like a test of patience but a sign of real progress – a Kenya moving forward for its people,” PS Omollo said.
While sharing additional information on the widely awaited road, PS Omollo insisted that, like the Nairobi Expressway, alternative routes will be available along the way.
“When the road is complete, it will be tolled at Ksh8 per kilometre, about Ksh1,400 for the full journey,” states Omollo.
The Rironi–Mau Summit Road is a highway that speaks directly to the country's dream of rising, Bottom-Up, into a modern, globally competitive economy, much like Singapore.

“But Kenyans will also have improved alternative routes, because choice matters. Safety matters. Fairness matters.”
According to the latest update, the new highway would be a four-lane dual road connecting Rironi and Naivasha. It will later be expanded to six lanes from Naivasha to Nakuru.
“From Naivasha to Nakuru, where the trucks and buses pack the road from morning to night, it expands to six lanes to keep everyone moving,” PS Omollo asserted.
The Ksh200 billion road project in Nakuru City will be elevated to reduce traffic congestion.
“Beyond Nakuru, the road becomes a spacious four-lane highway all the way to Mau Summit, opening up travel to Western Kenya like never before,” PS Omollo stated.
Adding, “It means shorter trips for traders, faster access to hospitals, more reliable supply chains for farmers, and smoother trips for students travelling to and from school.”

The road, which is projected to be completed by 2027, aims to improve the flow of commodities from Mombasa to Western Kenya.
Additionally, it will also ease commercial routes into Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This will improve connectivity, reduce expenses, and shorten travel time from the Port of Mombasa to the Malaba and Busia border checkpoints, despite increasing competition from Tanzania.
To entirely eliminate traffic, the government is expanding the Westlands-Rironi route to six lanes.
