LIBYA: Gaddafi’s Son Assassinated At Home, Family Confirms
On Tuesday, a source close to the Gaddafi family reported to Al Arabiya that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of Libya’s former leader Muammar Gaddafi, was killed in an attack by four gunmen.
The 53-year-old was killed in Zintan, around 136 kilometers (85 miles) southwest of Tripoli.
According to the report, the perpetrators shot Saif al-Islam in his garden before departing. According to the insider, it was unclear who was responsible for the killing.
The Libyan national news agency LANA also claimed his death, citing his advisor, Abdallah Othman.
According to sources from Saif al-Islam’s political team, four gunmen invaded his home after disabling security cameras.

Saif al-Islam was long seen as his father’s successor. He stated in 2021 that he would run for president, but the elections were postponed indefinitely.
Born in 1972, he played a key role in Libya’s rapprochement with the West from 2000 until the collapse of the Gaddafi regime.
After his father’s removal, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi – who was accused of playing a key role in the brutal repression of anti-government protests – was jailed by a rival militia in the city of Zintan for almost six years.
