“Kenyans Don’t Want Political Noise!” – Ruto Tells Gachagua Over Planned Protests

President William Ruto has responded to the united opposition’s demand for statewide rallies, accusing the lawmakers of wanting to stir young people into disorder.

Ruto accused opposition leaders of inciting violence for personal gain during a NYOTA disbursement in Mkomani, Mombasa County, on Friday, February 6.

He said that opposition leaders, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, were organizing rallies by recruiting young people to engage in disruptive acts.

“I have heard those on the other side saying they are planning nationwide protests and want to recruit young Kenyans to demonstrate,” Ruto said.

“They intend to cause chaos and destroy property, yet their main agenda is to convince you to vote for them,” he added.

Ruto warned that such actions could cause immense harm to the country’s economy.

The Head of State said that opposition leaders lack a concrete development agenda, particularly for the country’s young, unemployed population.

He pushed them to develop concrete proposals for job creation, economic empowerment, and national growth rather than focused simply on political competition.

According to Ruto, the opposition’s major purpose appears to be to remove him from power, rather than to provide alternative options to Kenyans in need.

“They claim their agenda is to unseat William Ruto. That is the only agenda they have,” he said.

He added that such an approach does not address the real challenges facing the youth.

Ruto emphasized that young people are astute and would not be fooled by opposition politicians, insisting that the youth will only support leaders who protect their interests.

“You cannot expect young people to vote for you when you do not have their plight in your plans. They want answers on employment and opportunities, not political noise,” the Head of State noted.

His statements come a week after Gachagua promised to organize nationwide protests if police officers reportedly implicated in the attack on the ACK Witima Church in Othaya are not arrested by February 16.

Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi on Friday, January 30, Gachagua pressed the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, demanding immediate action against 12 officers.

“We have told the IG that before we come back on the 16th, those members of that unit need to be arrested,” Gachagua said.

“After the 16th, we will have nothing else to do but to call for protests in the Republic of Kenya.”
