TVETA: List Of Accredited TVETs In Kenya
The Technical and Vocational Training Authority (TVETA) has warned those enrolling in TVET institutions against enrolling at unauthorised institutions and obtaining unrecognised certificates.
In a notice on Tuesday, March 10, the authority said its attention had been drawn to an increase in the number of training institutions without the legal mandate to award certificates that have duped the public by issuing internal certificates.
TVETA said only institutions accredited and recognised by the regulator or other legally established qualification awarding bodies are allowed to issue nationally recognised certificates and qualifications.
“The Authority’s attention has been drawn to an increased number of training institutions without a legal mandate to award certificates, duping the public by awarding internal certificates,” the authority stated in the notice.
The authority went further to list accredited TVET institutions with the legal mandate to assess and award academic certificates, which are available on its official website.
The list consists of 34 National Polytechnics, 1,807 Technical and Vocational Colleges, and 1,216 Vocational Training Centres.
The national polytechnics accredited include Kenya Coast, Eldoret, Rift Valley, Sigalagala, Kabete, Nairobi, North Eastern, Kisumu, Mwea and Kaimosi Friends, among others.
“The public is hereby notified that recognised certificates in Kenya shall only be awarded by Recognised Qualification Awarding Bodies (QABs) that have legal mandate conferred through an Act of Parliament and/or subsidiary legislation, including Legal Notices or Legal Orders,” it added.
The warning comes days after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) opened applications for TVET institutions for the 2000 – 2025 KCSE cohorts who wanted to pursue courses at TVET institutions.
The latest application is now open to all candidates with any grade, as part of efforts to ensure that every candidate finds a course to pursue.

TVETA, however, explained that under the TVET Act, institutions must first be approved by the authority before mounting any training programme or issuing academic awards.
The regulator also cautioned that no private technical and vocational education and training institution has the legal mandate to assess and award nationally recognised certificates unless authorised under the law.
Students, parents, and employers have therefore been urged to exercise caution and verify the legal status of institutions before enrolling in any training programme.
The authority further warned that institutions found misrepresenting their legal status or issuing certificates without authorisation will face regulatory and legal action.
