“Why Didn’t You Tell Moi To Retire?” – Uhuru Hits Out At Gov’t Apologists

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed calls for him to step down as Jubilee Party leader and keep off politics, insisting that he remains firmly in charge of the party.

Speaking on Friday, May 1, during a phone call at the homecoming ceremony of Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta, Uhuru pushed back against critics, urging him to retire from politics.

The former Head of State defended himself, insisting that he has the constitutional right to freedom of expression and to engage in politics, noting that he retains the liberty to speak and belong to the party.

“Why do they always want me to remain silent? They do not even want me at weddings and funerals of friends. They just want me to remain quiet like a dumb person,” Uhuru lamented.

“When I talk just a little, they start shouting, telling me to retire and go home. Why didn’t they tell Moi to retire and go home?” he posed.

Uhuru noted that while he is currently not engaged in active politics, he has the right to defend his party, maintaining that he would stand with the Jubilee party regardless of the criticism.

In his remarks, Uhuru appeared to aim at President William Ruto, accusing him of undermining multi-party democracy in the country.

He particularly criticised the President for allegedly interfering with several political parties, a move he said could take the country back.

“I have the right to stand with Jubilee. They are not only interfering with Jubilee, but they are also after other parties. They want to close all of them down. This is against multipartism,” the former President claimed.

During the ceremony, Uhuru also used the platform to rally support for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, endorsing him as Jubilee’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Elections.

The event brought together a section of Jubilee leaders, including Fred Matiang’i and Jeremiah Kioni, all of whom echoed Uhuru’s sentiments.

This reveals their intention to collaborate with other political parties in a bid to challenge the current administration.

“Now I know why they were pushing us. I now know they intended to interfere with our party,” said Matiang’i.

“I want to tell you that when we get to power, we will change some of these things that are being done by this administration.”
