Court Frees Activist Bob Njagi In Treason Case
Bob Njagi, a human rights activist, has been released after the Kajiado Law Courts rejected a treason charge against him, saying that the prosecution failed to build a case.
On Thursday, June 2, the Principal Magistrate dismissed the accusations and closed the file, stating that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had not presented enough evidence to support the case.
In a post viewed by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, he acknowledged the development, urging investigative agencies to gather sufficient proof before charging persons in court.
“Today at Kajiado Law Courts we represented activist Bob Njagi who was charged with treason. The court found that the case had no merit and dismissed it,” he wrote.

Owino served on Njagi’s legal team, which also included Siaya County Governor James Orengo, Senator Dan Maanzo, and advocate Erick Ngunjiri.
The ruling comes after the court had allowed police to detain Njagi at Isinya Police Station for over a week as detectives conducted investigations.
Njagi was arrested in Kajiado County on June 24 over allegations of incitement linked to the June 25 Gen Z anniversary demonstrations.

His arrest came a day before nationwide protests that saw leaders, activists and citizens take to the streets to commemorate those who died during the 2024 and 2025 protests.
Njagi’s arrest sparked public uproar, with citizens scrutinising the government over the reported arrest of 355 people nationwide in connection with the demonstrations, as well as allegations of abductions.
The activist is widely known for his involvement in the Linda Mwananchi movement and for attracting national attention following his alleged abduction after the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests.
He was also previously arrested in Uganda alongside activist Nicholas Oyoo over allegations related to political activities during the neighbouring country’s 2025 election period.
