Ruto’s Top, Controversial Blogger Resigns To Run For Embakasi East MP Seat
Cosmas Ombori, better known by his online alias Cosmos Choy, has resigned from a US-based trucking company to run for the Embakasi East parliamentary seat in the 2027 general election.
Choy, an outspoken and contentious presence on social media, is running to replace incumbent Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, whom he has just endorsed.
On Monday, February 24, 2025, Choy announced his departure from Ryder, the logistics firm where he worked.
βJust resigned from this international company Ryder18 wheels π, I am running for MP Embakasi East 2027. Message approved π― %,β Cosmos Choy wrote on X on Monday.

Choy’s campaign places him against a backdrop of shifting political allegiances.
Babu Owino has indicated his desire to run for Nairobi governor, leaving the Embakasi East seat available.
Choy has publicly supported Babu’s gubernatorial run, as he announced on February 11.
βMy Governor, My choice. Sakaja home π‘ direct. I @cosmochoy Kipchumba mwenyewe approves this message π―,” he tweeted.
Given Choy’s history of unexpected political opinions, the endorsement is an unusual coalition.
Choy, a former supporter of opposition leader Raila Odinga in Kenya’s 2017 elections, has switched allegiances to President William Ruto in 2022.
He has now emerged as a vocal supporter of the Ruto government, routinely utilizing his position to attack the president’s adversaries.
Choy’s shift became clear earlier this month, when he chastised Raila for supporting Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for re-election.
βRaila endorsed Sakaja wa Madimples. Without knowing, he gave Babu Owino more popular. I @cosmochoy Kipchumba Mwenyewe approves this message π―,β Cosmos Choy tweeted on February 11.
Despite living in the United States, Choy retains a sizable following in Kenya, using social media to engage voters and shape conversation.
His familiarity with President Ruto goes beyond virtual interactions.
The blogger appears to have easy access to Ruto, as the two met in the United States in September 2022 on the margins of the UN General Assembly, shortly after the president won the August election.

Political observers are divided about Choy’s chances. Some see him as a social media sensation whose popularity could not transfer into votes.
Others see his unedited attitude as appealing to a disillusioned electorate seeking unusual leadership.
Embakasi East has generally favored ODM candidates with extensive grassroots networks.
It remains to be seen whether Choy’s internet power will be enough to overcome ground realities.
