There were no casualties or incidents recorded from the blaze as of the writing of this story. The school has more than a thousand students.
The cause of the fire is similarly unknown, while there is speculation that it was another example of arson inside a high school.
This is because the fire occurred when students were normally gone from their dormitories.
Although there were no reported casualties, the fire destroyed students’ belongings, compounding the high school’s rising troubles in recent years.
Onjiko High School has recently made headlines for disputed reasons, following a three-year suspension from participating in competitive secondary school athletics.
This came after a scandal erupted during the Kisumu County Secondary Schools football tournament, in which the school was accused of fielding kids who were not formally registered.
Notably, the months of June and July are notorious for fire occurrences in Kenyan high schools, with experts pointing out that the periods are always near test time.
